Clay County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,183, making it the fifth-least populous county in Georgia. The county seat is Fort Gaines
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 3,183 people residing in the county. 60.4% were Black or African American, 37.6% White, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% of some other race and 1.2% of two or more races. 0.8% were Hispanic or Latino (of any race)
The town of Fort Gaines was founded in 1816. It was named for Gen. E. P. Gaines. A fort of the same name had been built in 1814 nearby on the Chattachoochee River. In 1854, Fort Gaines was designated seat of the newly formed Clay County
According to the United States Census Bureau, Fort Gaines has a total area of 7.7 square miles (19.9 km2), of which 4.8 square miles (12.4 km2) is land and 2.9 square miles (7.6 km2), or 37.99%, is water.

The Clay County Board of Commissioners is seeking a County Administrator.
The Clay County Administrator is the Chief Administrative Officer appointed by the Board of Commissioners. The Administrator is responsible to the Board of Commissioners for the proper and efficient administration of the affairs of the Clay County Government. The County Administrator performs these responsibilities through the various department directors and administrative personnel, who report directly to the County Administrator.
Duties of the County Administrator
Ensure the Commissions policies are carried out.
Assists in developing policies and goals for the county.
Provides administrative leadership to the departments of the county government.
Develops and presents an annual budget for the county.
Strives for efficiency, effectiveness and innovation in the delivery and funding of services.
Acts as a liaison between the elected officials and the county commissioners.
Represents the commission on a day to day basis with the various boards, authorities and councils appointed by the County Commission.
Effectively establishes relationships with the legislative bodies in neighboring counties and the State of Georgia
Promotes Clay County in a positive and beneficial light by promoting economic development.
The selected applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or closely related field (Master’s degree is preferred) and five years experience and/or training that includes demonstrated management success in local government management, public administration, financial management, budget administration, and public & employee relations.
Clay County is located approximately 60 miles west of Albany, GA and approximately 70 miles south of Columbus at the state line. The county budget is approximately $5.2 million and employs approximately 57 employees.

NOTICE OF EMPLOYMENT
Clay County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for a full-time Utility Billing/Customer Service Clerk. Job responsibilities include billing and accepting payments for Refuse and Water Services, filing, general administrative and secretarial, and other duties as assigned by management. To be considered qualified for this position applicants should possess a high school diploma and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, and must have a general understanding of computer operations. All applicants will be required to submit to a criminal background check, drug testing, and verification of education and previous employment. Salary shall be commensurate with experience.
