tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more

than 17.208 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home

with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately

PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING A PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

The Clay County Board of Commissioners today announces its intention to increase the 2022 property taxes it will levy this year by 9.35 percentage over the rollback millage rate.

When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.

The proposed FY 2023 Clay County Budget requires a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate to be able to maintain and continue to provide much needed services to the citizens of Clay County.  Therefore, before the Clay County Board of Commissioners may finalize the proposed budget and set the final millage rate, Georgia law requires that three public hearings be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Clay County Fire Station, 125 New Park Road, Fort Gaines, GA on

September 15, 2022 at 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM and at the Clay County Court House, 201 S. Washington Street, Fort Gaines, GA on September 22, 2022 at 6:00 PM.
